Producing shop drawings and running clash coordination costs a few extra days, and removes most of the demolition and rework on site.
On site, most MEP demolition and rework comes from clashes between services: ductwork cutting across cable tray, chilled water pipes running through light fitting positions, hangers landing on fire mains.
What shop drawings solve
A shop drawing puts every service on one plan at one set of levels, forcing the clashes to be resolved on paper before material arrives on site.
A common level priority order
- Gravity drainage — fixed first because it depends on falls.
- Ductwork — large and hard to reroute.
- Fire mains and chilled water pipework.
- Power and ELV cable tray — the most flexible, routed last.
